Chargemaster has announced that it now has the UK’s largest rapid charger EV network, with the 300th rapid unit installed at the Best Western Garden Court hotel in Aylesbury.

According to Zap-Map’s statistics, there are currently 289 Electric Highway rapid charge units installed in the UK, with Chargemaster recently trumping the Ecotricity-run network as the largest rapid charge point provider. This is looking at all rapid charge points accessible on the POLAR network, including Charge Your Car units, but not those under the ChargePlace Scotland banner.

The British charge point firm is currently installing around 20 new Ultracharge units a month, with access available to POLAR Plus members and POLAR Instant customers.

Other recently added rapid charger locations include Holiday Inn Express London Heathrow Terminal 5, intu Lakeside shopping centre in Essex and Lifton Farm Shop in Devon.

David Martell, Chief Executive of Chargemaster said: “Increasing the number of rapid charge points across the UK is an important priority in supporting the uptake of electric vehicles.

“We are adding new rapid chargers to the POLAR network every week and now have units within five minutes of half of all M25 junctions, with others positioned along the Strategic Road Network and at other popular destinations.”

All Chargemaster POLAR units are available to find on Zap-Map, with dynamic data available to show whether the charge point is available or not. You can find POLAR points by using the network filters.

Also recently announced is the news that car park operator Q-Park is offering 20% off the cost of pre-booked spots for POLAR Plus members. The deal for plug-in car drivers is on top of existing discounts already offered for those parking their electric vehicle at Q-Park locations.

POLAR Plus members can enter a code when they pre-book a car park space at Q-Park online to get their 20% discount. There are more than 75 Q-Park sites across the UK and Ireland, all of which are involved in the scheme.

Q-Park already offers drivers a 50% discount off the cost of season tickets, with savings of up to £2,400 for those parking and using unlimited annual car park passes in central London.

David Martell said:”POLAR plus members already benefit from unlimited access to over 5,000 charging points, the majority of which are then free to use for them. The offer from Q-Park is a fantastic additional benefit for members of the POLAR network, and makes driving an electric vehicle an even more attractive proposition for more people.”

John Denton, Head of Sales & Marketing for Q-Park said: “We have been committed to focusing on our green agenda for many years, so we’re delighted with this latest partnership offer. We are pleased that we continue to lead the parking market in city centre EV infrastructure.”
