DS Automobiles will reveal a potential Geneva Motor Show star at the salon next week with its E-Tense concept – an all-electric high-tech Grand Tourer.

The design study previews a high-performance electric powertrain which produces 402hp and 381 lb ft of torque. The striking concept from the luxury arm of the PSA Peugeot Citroen Group further distinguishes the brand from the two French volume manufacturers.

The model has come about as part of DS Automobiles’ dedication to an electric future and benefits from the company’s recent entry into Formula E championship. Range is quoted at 193 miles on a mixed cycle – or more than 220 miles in urban conditions, with the DS concept’s lithium-ion batteries located under the chassis for a low centre of gravity.

The E-Tense features a 3D printed front grille – a technology which is increasingly being found on concept cars as manufacturers are able to create more complex shapes than ever before in a cost-effective way. Other features include a clean-air cabin filtration system, high-end Focal sound system, custom made BRM Chronographers watch with the face tilted towards the E-Tenser owner while driving, and leather trim including helmet straps by Moynat.

The E-Tense weighs in at 1.8 tonnes, has a top speed of 155mph, uses a carbon monocoque chassis with power driven to the rear wheels, and will accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds.

Further details will be announced at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
