Transport for London (TfL) has partnered with Energy Saving Trust (EST) and Route Monkey to create a network of rapid charge points around London, in order to cater to UK electric van fleets.

The 2014 ‘Chargepoint Mapping’ project, funded by TfL and managed by EST and Route Monkey, will collect telematics data from commercial vehicle fleets over a 3 month period to inform the positioning of rapid charge points around the capital.

The project is welcoming applications from fleets based wholly or partially in Greater London who operate at least 10 commercial vehicles. Those interested can download the application form on EST’s website.

Rapid charging points typically provide an 80% charge in under 30 minutes, but the electric vehicle must be compatible with rapid charging. Both the Nissan e-NV200 electric van and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which will soon be available as a commercial vehicle, possess rapid charging capabilities.
