InstaVolt has started rolling out its ultra-rapid EV charge points, with 125 kW units now live in Basingstoke and new points to follow across the UK this summer.
The network’s existing network of 50 kW rapid chargers will continue to meet the maximum charging requirements of most CCS and CHAdeMO EVs on the road. However, faster charging models are available, and increasingly common in the list of forthcoming EVs.
As such, InstaVolt’s new chargers will top up certain EVs at more than twice the speed of its existing network. Models such as the Jaguar I-Pace, Mercedes Benz EQC, and Audi e-tron can charge at up to 100 kW, 110 kW and 150 kW respectively. Likewise, larger battery models in the mass market – including the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia e-Niro – can charge faster than 50 kW.
The ChargePoint Express 250 units being installed can be upgraded at a later date to deliver more power still, and all charge using 100% renewable electricity. As with all InstaVolt points, they are accessed using a contactless bank card, with no registration or membership required. Pricing is at 35p/kWh – the same as the existing units.
New units will be installed in the coming weeks and months, and in some cases, existing sites will be retro-fitted with the faster chargers. Existing locations already confirmed for upgraded points include Corfe Mullen Starbucks in Dorset, and Route 303 restaurant near Honiton in Devon.
