After much anticipation, the Jaguar I-PACE will finally be revealed in a global broadcast on 19:00 CET on 01 March 2018 ahead of its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show on 06 March.
While a number of ultra low emission cars are set to be launched in 2018, few offer as much excitement as Jaguar’s I-Pace. The pure-electric crossover will enter new territory for Jaguar, showing that the iconic British marque is now engaging with electric power-trains with vigour.
While we wait for the full specs to be published, the original concept vehicle was powered by a 90 kWh battery and a couple of 200 hp electric motors giving the SUV 400 hp. This fits with the soon-to-be released model which Jaguar has indicated an EV range of more than 220 miles on the EPA cycle.
Jaguar has also indicated that the I-Pace will be able to recharge to 80 percent in around 1.5 hours on a 50 kW rapid charger (45 mins on a 100 kW unit), a time which reflects the large size of the battery which has twice the capacity of a latest 40 kWh Nissan LEAF.
Entry into Formula E and the creation of a single-make racing series based on the I-Pace show Jaguar’s plug-in intentions, and the I-Pace is expected to come into the EV market as a class leader from the outset.
In preparation for the launch, the British premium brand has taken the electric car through its paces in wintry Sweden (see video) and has tested the SUVs fast-charging capabilities even in icy conditions.
From its launch on 01 March when the model’s full pricing and spec will be revealed, the I-Pace will be available to order. As yet, however, not details have been given about delivery dates across different territories including the US, the EU or the UK.
