The agreement that allowed NewMotion charge card owners to use Charge Your Car (CYC) points has been cancelled with immediate effect by CYC. The announcement brings to an end a partnership that lasted around two years, and dramatically reduces the number of available charge points NewMotion cards can currently access.
With the roaming agreement cancelled, around 1,500 charge points are now removed from NewMotion customers’ options, unless they separately signing up to either the CYC network, or Polar – the network run by Chargemaster, which recently took control of Charge Your Car.
NewMotion’s UK Country Manager, Sander van der Veen said: “NewMotion believes that for EV to become truly successful in the UK it is necessary to create an open charging network where drivers can charge their vehicle at any charge point with a single card or app.
“The priority should be on creating a seamless charging experience for all EV drivers that allows them to have a convenient journey. We, therefore, regret Chargemaster’s decision to revoke our roaming agreement and the inconvenience this may bring.”
NewMotion is working on creating roaming agreements with other network operators, and its own charging network is expanding in the UK, having come in to the region after success in European markets.
