NewMotion has completed a project in partnership with Southampton City Council, which has seen 30 new EV charging points installed in the city.
The new 22 kW fast charge points have been fitted across five city centre multi-storey car parks – six at each – intended to make EV charging easy for drivers in Southampton, whether residents or visitors.
The use of NewMotion’s smart charge points means the new units have Dynamic Load Balancing for improved reliability. The installation was completed in just six weeks too, as the new units were able to use the car parks’ existing electrical grids.
Southampton is one of 40 UK cities named by the World Health Organisation last year as having damaging air safety levels. This EV charge point project is part of a broader scheme to tackle air pollution in the city.
With access via NewMotion RFID card, the new charge point locations are:
• West Park car park – Ground Floor
• Grosvenor Square car park – Ground Floor
• Bedford Place car park – Level 2
• Eastgate car park – Ground Floor
• Marlands car park – Level 3
