A new partnership with RAW Charging will support the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in its initiative to facilitate reductions in emissions related to how visitors get to its gardens.

By installing EV charging bays at RHS’s iconic locations, RAW Charging is supporting the commitment to sustainability and in particular its ambition to be climate positive by 2030. RAW is helping the uptake of sustainable travel but also enhancing the visitor experience for millions of guests and members each year.

The first stage of the contract will see RAW deliver over 90 EV charging bays across five RHS Gardens in the UK, and the installation is expected to be completed in time for the busy 2025 summer season, subject to approvals.

In 2024, RHS gardens welcomed over 2.7 million visitors, underscoring their status as some of the UK's most beloved public attractions.

Founded in 1804, the RHS promotes horticulture through its five gardens, numerous flower shows, community gardening schemes, and extensive educational programs. Sustainability is at the heart of everything the RHS does with six key targets relating to climate, biodiversity, biosecurity, water scarcity, circular plastic and waste to landfill in place.

Jason Simpson, CEO, RAW Charging, commented:

“We are thrilled to partner with the Royal Horticultural Society to bring our market leading EV charging solutions to some of the UK's most beloved public attractions. This contract underscores our commitment to making EV charging more accessible and convenient for drivers across the leisure and hospitality sectors.

By installing over 90 charging bays at five RHS Gardens, we are not only supporting sustainable travel but also enhancing the visitor experience at these iconic locations. This collaboration is a testament to RAW's capability to deliver high-quality charging infrastructure at premier sites, and we look forward to continuing our mission to transform the EV charging landscape in the UK and beyond.”

Over the past 12 months, RAW has invested in numerous partnerships across the UK and Europe including key developments at some of the UK’s most recognisable attraction sites. This work includes an extensive roll-out of 162 chargers for National Trust, across many iconic Merlin Entertainments sites including LEGOLAND® Windsor and Alton Towers. RAW has also installed chargers at premier retail sites for McArthurGlen and for other major landlords aberdeen and Aviva Investors.

Malcolm Anderson, RHS Head of Sustainability, commented:

"This initiative aligns with our commitment to sustainability and enhancing the visitor experience. By installing over 90 EV charging bays across our five iconic gardens, we are making it easier for our visitors to enjoy their time with us whilst reducing the carbon emissions associated with travel by private car. This complements our ongoing work on increasing accessibility to our gardens and shows via active travel and public transport.

“This collaboration with RAW Charging is an important step forward in our efforts to promote green practices and ensure our gardens remain accessible and enjoyable for all."

RAW also shares a partnership with Zapmap, meaning that users of the Zapmap app and web map are able to access the live status and availability of RAW charge points at any time.
