New research by Drax Electric Vehicles has revealed that one in three businesses plans to install EV charge points within the next 12 months.

The study consisted of eight in-depth interviews and 405 online interviews with senior decision makers, across a range of large businesses, sectors for the study included financial and insurance, information and communication, manufacturing wholesale, and more.

Business fleets account for over half of new car registrations in the UK, Drax Electric Vehicles’ research found that almost half (48%) of businesses had already installed EV charge points.

Those within service industries – notably the information & communication and professional, scientific and technical sub-categories – were the most likely to have installed charge points, at 61% and 52% respectively.

“There’s no one-size-fits-all strategy for installing EV charge points or an exact figure for how many chargers you should have. Each fleet has different requirements depending on the nature of its work, the number of available on-site spaces and whether there’s any existing infrastructure,” said  Naomi Nye, Head of Sales, Drax Electric Vehicles.

“What’s important is that fleet decision makers are working to a long-term strategy that reflects the needs of their future fleet. By laying the foundations now, they’ll likely save a lot of time and money in the years to come.”

However, the Drax research, found that one in three respondents was unaware of EV grants and financial incentives.

“The next cohort of EV adopters need additional support and guidance as they navigate the unknown. They’re more risk averse than the first generation and want to be armed with as much information as possible before making a decision.”

Zapmap offers a solution for business owners who have decided to share their charge points with public users. The Zap-Work network is a peer-to-peer charging network that allows owners to offer up their workplace charge point under their own conditions for pricing and access.

With charge points available to be found on either our web map, or Android or iOS apps, Zap-Work charge points have the same features available as public units.
